In my group we deal with synthesis and characterization of biologically active RE-based nanoparticles able to penetrate and selectively interact with different intra-cellular structures. These nanoparticles can be used both as passive carriers for drug molecules and as active participants in biological processes. Processes of nanoparticle-biomolecules interaction are investigated using wide range of spectroscopic techniques. My research also connected with development of nanoparticles for photodynamic therapy able to destroy cancer cells under X-ray and IR laser excitation and investigation of their spectroscopic and biological properties.

I am a (radio-) chemist and currently research assistant at the Technical University of Dresden, Faculty of Biology, Institute of Zoology, Professorship of Cell Physiology and Endocrinology (Germany). Main interest of my work are the interactions of rare earth elements/lanthanides and radioactive actinides with mammalian cells to allow for more reliable risk assessment in the event of accidental incorporation. To address this problem, various cell biological techniques (cell viability, cytotoxicity, apoptosis, and proliferation assays, immunocytochemical staining followed by fluorescence microscopy) and chemical/analytical techniques (ICP-MS, spectroscopy, especially TRLFS and LWCC-UV/vis) are used.
